King David Apple Originated in 1893 as a chance seedling discovered on the orchard property of farmer Ben Frost of Durham, Arkansas. Fruit is medium size and round in shape. Exterior color is yellow with red to orange blush and striping. Flesh is pale cream yellow, firm and crunchy. Flavor is a balanced sweet and tart. Juicy and aromatic with hints of spice and wine. Some have proclaimed King David to be one of the best flavored apples available. This heirloom selection is good for fresh eating, sauce, baking and cider. Fruit harvests fall into winter. Pollination required with other mid to late season blooming varieties. Some pollinators include Fuji, Granny Smith, Lady Williams and Pink Lady. Once thought to have a high chill requirement. Arbequina AS1® Olive Arebequina has become California's top variety for oil production. Mild and fruit flavor with low bitterness, the fruit is very high in oil content. It has a compact growing habit and is moderately frost hardy. Self-fruitful, but produces higher yields when planted with a pollenizer such as Arbosana.
Arbosana L43® Olive Mainly grown as a complement to Arbequina, this variety has a more robust flavor than Arbequina. A compact grower that is moderately frost hardy. Fruit matures about 3 weeks later than Arbequina. Self-fruitful but produces higher yields with a pollenizer such as Arbequina.
Koroneiki I-38 Olive Greek variety, originally cultivated on the plains, lower hillsides and coastal areas of Crete where the climate is relatively warm. Adapts well in high density orchards, early producer. Very small fruit size. Excellent oil quality with very high polyphenols. Fruit yield is high with a slight tendency for alternate bearing. Blooms with Arbequina.
Manzanillo Olive Manzanillo is the classic table olive. It's a large variety that can be eaten both green and ripe black. This variety becomes fruitier and less bitter as it ripens. Moderately cold hardy. Self-fruitful but produces higher yields with a pollenizer.
