Chico Jujube (G17-62) “Chinese date.” Round, flat-bottomed, sweet fruit of medium size. Partly self-fruitful. 200 hours. USDA Zones 5-9.
Ghost Apple For the apple lover who wants a truly unique variety, the Ghost apple is in a category by itself. Totally white skin and flesh with sweet, sub-acid flavor. Does well in hot climates. Harvest in early July. Pollenized by any mid-season blooming apple. 300-400 chill hours, high-chill adaptable. USPP applied for. (Zaiger)
Granny Smith Apple From New Zealand. Large, late, green, all-purpose. Crisp, tart, excellent keeper. Requires long summer. Thrives in hot climates. 400 hours. Prolonged bloom: good pollenizer for other apples. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 6-9.
Pink Lady® Apple Hot climate apple from Western Australia. Very crisp, sweet tart, distinct flavor, good keeper. Skin reddish pink over green when ripe. White flesh resists browning. Harvest begins late October in Central CA, about three weeks after Fuji. Self-fruitful in many western U.S. climates; pollenizer recommended for best production. 300-400 hours. USDA Zones 6-9.
Sundowner® Apple A sister plant to the popular Pink Lady® selection, Sundowner® has a sweet, crispy, white flesh and excellent flavor. Considered a late harvest variety ripening from October well into winter in most areas. Does well under extreme fruit growing conditions such as southern fruit growing districts and deserts with little or no damage to the fruit. Chill requirement of 200 to 300 hours with high chill adaptability. Self-fruitful.
Gold Kist Apricot Excellent backyard apricot for warm winter climates. Freestone, very good quality. Heavy bearing. Early harvest, 3-4 weeks before Blenheim (Royal). 300 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 7-9. (Zaiger)
Rival Apricot Aromatic, slightly tart, large oval fruit. Heavy midseason bloomer, good producer. Early harvest of orange-red blushed or speckled red fruit with deep orange flesh. Reliable variety where frost hardy traits are required. Requires an early blooming pollenizer. Zones 5-8.
20th Century Asian Pear Juicy, sweet, mild flavored fruit is crisp like an apple. Early to mid-August in Central CA. Keeps well. Easy to grow, heavy bearing small tree. 300-400 hours. Self-fruitful or pollenized. by Shinseiki, Bartlett, or other.
Royal Lee Cherry Medium-sized red cherry, very firm with excellent flavor. Ripens 11-14 days ahead of Bing, Tree is very productive with a low chill requirement. Pollenized by Minnie Royal and Royal Crimson. 200 to 300 hours. (Pat. No.12417) (Zaiger)
Stella Cherry Self-fruitful - no pollenizer needed. Large, nearly black, richly flavored sweet cherry similar to its parent, Lambert. Late harvest. 400 hours. Pollinates Bing, except in mild winter climates. USDA Zones 5-9.
Dolgo Crabapple Long-time favorite all-purpose crabapple, imported from Russia in late 19th century. Large, fragrant, white flowers. 1 1/2-inch oval-shaped red fruit makes tasty, bright red jelly. Vigorous, upright, open tree to 30 by 25 ft. Resistant to scab, rust, mildew, fire blight. 500 hours. Self-fruitful. A recommended pollenizer for many commercial apple varieties.

Violette de Bordeaux Fig Small to medium size purple-black fruit with a very deep red strawberry pulp and distinctive, sweet, rich flavor. Brebas are pear-shaped with a thick, tapering neck; main crop figs are variable, often without neck. Medium eye. Excellent fresh or dried. A naturally small (semi dwarf) tree. Frost hardy. Good for container culture or small spaces. Self-fruitful. USDA Zones 5-10.
GA 866 Jujube “Chinese date.” Outstanding, two-inch elongated fruit is exceptionally sweet with apple-like flavor. Ripens mid-autumn. Partly self-fruitful or pollenize with another jujube. 200 hours. USDA Zones 5-9.
Honey Jar Jujube “Chinese date.” Extremely sweet, small to medium sized round fruit. Compact tree-form does well in drought conditions. Party self-fruitful. 200 hours USDA Zones 5-9.
Shanxi Li Jujube “Chinese date.” Largest of the popular jujube varieties (over 2 inches), round shape. Apple-like flavor, sweetens when dried. Self-fruitful and a good pollenizer for other varieties. 200 hours. USDA Zones 5-9.
Sugar Cane Jujube Round fruit is smaller than Li. Sweet, crunchy flesh. Tree is precocious, hardy, drought resistant, virtually pest and disease free. Requires long, hot summer. Very low chill requirement. Partly self-fruitful.
Arctic Jay White Nectarine Taste test winner. Very attractive, firm, freestone fruit is richly flavored, with a balance of acid and sugar. Ripens between Arctic Glo and Heavenly White white nectarines. 500 hours or less. Self-fruitful. (Zaiger)
Honey Kist Nectarine Early-ripening yellow nectarine with high sugar and low acid (no tartness). Harvest begins late June in Central CA,about with Independence nectarine. Galaxy White Peach Saucer style white-fleshed peach, similar to Stark Saturn but larger, 6 oz fruit. Cream skin, blushed red. Sweet, flavorful flesh. Developed by USDA research station in San Joaquin Valley, CA. Ripens late June. Self-fruitful. 450 hours. USDA Zones 5-10.
John Fanick Peach Large, yellow peach with red blush. Yellow freestone flesh of exceptional flavor. Named for its breeder, John Fanick of San Antonio, TX. Ripens late July. Self-fruitful. 450 hours. USDA Zones 6-9.
Sugar May White Peach Sweetest peach of its season: mid-June, about one month before Babcock. Very juicy and sweet with fine flavor. High fruit tasting scores. Excellent choice for early season peach. Medium to large size, attractive red skin. Estimated chilling requirement 600-700 hours. Self-fruitful. (Zaiger)
White Lady White Peach Among the best of the low acid/high sugar white peaches - a farmer's market favorite. Red-skinned fruits are medium to large, very firm, freestone. Introduced in 1986. 800 hours. Self-fruitful. (Zaiger)
Seckel Pear Connoisseurs' favorite. Sweet, flavorful, aromatic, spicy, perhaps the best dessert pear. Russeted brown skin. Resists fire blight. 500 hours. Self-fruitful in most climates of Western U.S. Elsewhere, pollenized by Bosc, D’Anjou, or other pear, but not Bartlett.
Warren Pear Excellent quality dessert pear, tree is highly resistant to fire blight. Medium to large, long-necked fruit with pale green skin, sometimes blushed red. Smooth flesh (no grit cells) is juicy and buttery with superb flavor. Good keeper. Cold hardy to -20 deg F. From Mississippi. 600 hours. Self-fruitful
Chocolate Persimmon Small to medium size, oblong, bright red skin. Sweet, spicy, firm, brown flesh, superb flavor - the choice of connoisseurs. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
Coffeecake Persimmon Unique spicy sweet flavor that instantly evokes images of cinnamon pastry, hot coffee and morning sunshine. Coffeecake ripens about the same time as Chocolate and about three weeks to one month earlier than Fuyu. Coffeecake Persimmon is non-astringent and can be eaten while still firm. Hardy, attractive tree, practically free of pests and disease. Estimated chilling requirement: 200 hours or less. Another persimmon variety required as a pollenizer. Gosho or Chocolate are the best pollenizers for Coffeecake.
Giant Fuyu Persimmon Larger, not as flat as Fuyu. Crunchy when ripe like Fuyu. Sweet, flavorful, non astringent. Easy to grow, cool or hot climates. Fall harvest. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
Izu Persimmon Very sweet, tasty, non-astringent fruit ripens about three weeks before Fuyu. Medium to large size, round shape. Relatively small tree, good choice for backyard persimmon. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
Maru Persimmon Medium size, orange-red, round fruit. Beautiful glossy skin. If cross pollenized, flesh is dark cinnamon color and seeded. Very sweet, rich flavor, excellent quality. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.
Beauty Plum Sweet, flavorful plum, more widely adapted than Santa Rosa (more productive in cool, rainy climates). Red over yellow skin, amber flesh streaked red. Ripens June in Central CA, a week or more before Santa Rosa. 250 hours. Self-fruitful.
Burbank Plum Red and golden yellow skin. Yellow-orange (apricot colored) flesh is firm, sweet, aromatic, juicy and uniquely flavored. Relatively small tree, cold hardy. Imported from Japan by Luther Burbank. 400 hours. Pollenized by Santa Rosa.
Catalina Plum Large, black, favorite fresh market plum. Sweet and juicy but still firm when fully ripe, with very little tartness at skin and pit. Very high taste test scores, one of the best plums for fresh eating. Ripe late July in Central CA. Vigorous, productive tree. 300-400 hours. Self-fruitful.
Laroda Plum Very high scores for flavor and overall appeal in Dave Wilson Nursery taste tests. Dark purple skinned fruit with juicy, richly-flavored red and amber flesh. Prolonged harvest: late July to late August in Central CA, 5-6 weeks after Santa Rosa. 400 hrs. Pollenizer required: Santa Rosa, Late Santa Rosa, Burgundy, Nubiana.
Late Santa Rosa Plum Medium to large, reddish-purple skin, red-streaked amber flesh. Tart-sweet with rich flavor when fully ripe. Harvest about one month after Santa Rosa. 400 hours or less. Self-fruitful.
Dapple Dandy Pluot® Interspecific Plum Taste test winner. Ranks with Flavor King and Flavor Supreme Pluot® varieties as best-flavored fruit at Dave Wilson Nursery tastings. Creamy white and red fleshed freestone with wonderful plum-apricot flavor. Skin greenish-yellow with red spots, turning to a maroon and yellow dapple. August harvest in Central CA. 400-500 hours. USDA Zones 5-10. Pollenized by Flavor Supreme Pluot®, Flavor King Pluot®, Santa Rosa, Catalina or Burgundy Plum. (Zaiger)
Emerald Drop Pluot® Interspecific Plum Medium to large fruit with green skin and yellow-orange flesh. Prolonged harvest: early picked fruit is firm, yet juicy and sweet. Left to hang, fruit turns greenish-yellow with honey-like orange flesh. Upright tree sets heavy crops once established. Harvest mid-July to late August. Eversweet Pomegranate Very sweet, virtually seedless fruit. (Even immature fruits are sweet.) Red skin, clear (non-staining) juice. Harvest late summer through fall. Coast or inland. 8-10 ft. arching shrub, or train as tree or espalier. Large, showy, orange-red flowers. 150 hours. Self fruitful.
Fan Tex™ Ash Fraxinus velutina 'Fan Tex' Superior selection of Arizona ash. Large dark green leaves, symmetrical canopy, fast growing, seedless. Good tree for Southwestern desert climates. Budded onto seedling Arizona Ash.
Pink Dawn Chitalpa Chitalpa tashkentensis 'Pink Dawn' Chilopsis linearis x Catalpa bignonioides. Very fast-growing, relatively small single or multi-trunked tree, reaches approximately 20 by 20 ft. Very drought tolerant. Large clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers in summer are pale purplish-pink with pale yellow throat. Long, narrow, attractive, glossy green leaves. Hybridized in Russia. Adapted to Southern California and low desert climates of the Southwestern U.S.
Wilson Mimosa Albizia julibrissin 'Wilson' (Albizzia julibrissin ‘Wilson’) Rapid growth to 35 ft. high by 50 ft. wide. Fernlike branches, pink pompom flowers. Tolerates hot summer, desert conditions. Drought tolerant, but best with ample water. USDA Zones 6-10.
Bur Oak Quercus macrocarpa Fast growing tree with large, stout branches and yellow fall color. Coarse textured bark. Very adaptable. Zone 3.
Shumard Oak Quercus shumardii Closely resembles Scarlet Oak. Open growth habit, grows moderately fast in good soil to 60 ft. or more. Deeply cut lobed leaves. Yellow and red fall colors. Tolerant of acidic and poorly drained soils. Sunset Zones 4-9,12, 14-17.
Royal Purple Smoke Tree Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ Purple foliage, rich purple “smoke”: hazy-appearing clusters of fuzzy, purple flower stalks. Multi-trunked shrub or small tree to 20 by 20 ft. Likes cold, needs good drainage, resists oak root fungus. All Zones.
